Because one is the loneliest number...

Quick question...

Has anyone else seen a huuuge drop off in comment volume on dev art over the last year or so?

I've never been hugely popular but I do get the odd few comments per deviantion, although it seems to have really dropped off recently.

I find comments are directly proportional to how many I give out, and try wherver possible to maintain that balance -- basically, the more active you are, the more activity you get. It's depressing, but that seems to be how it works.

I noticed that too. Although my comments have lessen while my favs have gone up. Which confuse me.

Yep, same here!

I'm always looking for models (male/female, any age), if you'd like to help out in anyway, let me know. Bear in mind I work from Southampton/London and the South East. [link]

Fair enough, that would explain it as I've barely had any time to actually comment on anything out side of the my dev watch recently.

That would be a function of the interface change. Things are much, much easier to fave, and people don't usually want to put the effort in to respond to art. If they find a way to make commenting on art and journals more efficient in the new version, I'm pretty sure this'll balance out. :D

I know what it's like... I can barely be bothered to comment on other people's work anymore. Back in the day, I'd spend the time writing thoughtful, constructive comments, but now if I write anything at all it's usually nonsense.

I think what happens for me is that I'm still watching the same people, about half or three quarters of whom have wandered off, died, been put in prison or ground up for cat food, and I haven't added as many new ones. Plus, as others have said, you need to keep commenting.

In my case I changed style quite a bit too, got much darker I suppose, and some of the people watching me might not be as into that.

Like ^^ said, the way the interface is, it's so much easier to fave and some are just too lazy to actually write something decent. My faves have gone way up but as you say, comments have dropped off considerably. I think it also has to do with the amount of work being submitted, there being SO MANY here.

There's too many lazy people, hehe, to put it shortly :giggle:
